If a cat was stuck and not one would stop to help, what would you do? Image Credit: Tahsin Hossain
BANGLADESH – Imagine you are stuck between metal walls for a week straight, a dark place with no one to come to your aid. One cat in Dhaka, Bangladesh had to endure just that.
Colleagues Sunny Rahman and Furqan Ahmed heard the constant meows and discovered a cat stuck inside a wall. They knew they had to do something, so they embarked on a week-long mission along with other colleagues to get the cat out. However, after much effort, they realized they could not save this cat alone.
Furqan Ahmed told SOMOY TV about how they reached out for help saying "[we] told the story to the fire service... [and] they arrived with the whole crew within 10 minutes." Furqan also revealed about how the cat was able to survive throughout the week while it was stuck in the wall: “with [a] hole present on the wall, the food was given to it and that is why it is alive.”
On that Tuesday afternoon, with the help of the fire service and civil defense workers, some part of the wall was destroyed and the cat was successfully rescued. The bystanders and workers cheered loudly as the cat finally inspected the people and ran away.
Had Sunny and the other colleagues decided to abandon the cat when they couldn't get it out alone, the cat might not be with us today.
This really makes us ponder whether we would be selfless enough to give our time to help a helpless creature or if we would have simply given up because we lacked the tools to help.
Furqan and Sunny show us that we can help, even if we don't know how. If you ever find yourself in a situation where someone is in trouble, but you lack the resources to help, try contacting higher authorities or others that might know how to better solve the problem. All the world needs is for more people like Furqan and Sunny to do what they can to help those in need. You don't need to be an expert or have all the answers to show a little kindness.
As a German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer, once said, “Compassion for animals is intimately associated with goodness of character, and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man.”
